Gay men are not hated because of how they fuck.

Gay men are hated because they are perceived to be effeminate; no matter how “macho” you are, the mainstream equates being gay with lowering oneself to the inferior status of a woman.

Your misogyny—your hatred of women, trans folks, and femme men—is oppressing your community and yourself.

I’m really glad that I saw this in the castro last week and took the moment to read and photograph it.  I’m even more glad at the response it has seen on facebook and now bounced into my tumblrfeed with hundreds of notes/reblogs.

Thank you to whomever wrote this on our walls.  I have been FEELING internal oppression from gay men so hard lately and it’s made me into a bitchy introverted person.  Knowing that so many of my friends and acquaintances directly identify with these feelings—which have been hard to express until now—puts things in a better perspective and makes me feel less alone and more able to fight back!
